Mike Idoko, Chairman, Technical Committee on Continental Matches for Kano Pillars, on Sunday commended the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the Super Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi, for agreeing to sign a new contract.Idoko told NAN in a telephone interview in Akure, that he was particularly happy with this development .It would afford the home-based players the opportunity and hope of playing in major tournaments under Keshi as the Super Eagles’ coach, he said .NAN reports that Keshi had last week signed a two-year contract with the NFF to continue coaching the national team.According to
Idoko, Nigerian League has never had it so good until when Keshi became the national coach.During his first stint, he took six players from the league to 2013 AFCON in South Africa.Idoko urged football stakeholders to support the coach to succeed and take Nigerian football to a greater level.
“I commend both parties for agreeing on the new contract, for me, continuity matters, they should now settle down to work.“Best legs should be chosen without sentiments; we should all bury our hatchets. All the present stakeholders will leave someday, but the Super Eagles will remain.“When the head has problem, it affects the body. Initially, when Nigeria won the 2013 AFCON, there were no crises,’’ he saidHe said that the team could not qualify last edition because of the alleged leadership tussle within the NFF, he said.He advised Keshi to look for players in the league that would help qualify the country for the next AFCON in Gabon.NAN reports that the Super Eagles, the 2013 AFCON Champions, have been drawn to play in Group G along with Egypt, Chad and Tanzania for the 2017 AFCON qualifiers.
