Network Marketing (called The Business of the 21st century™
or Direct Selling Business) is being taught in more than 200 colleges today,
including Harvard Business School. After EXTENSIVE RESEARCH into the network
marketing industry, Harvard Business School developed THREE CRITERIA that a network
marketing company must meet in order to make it a most desirable OPPORTUNITY.
They are:
1. The company should be (at least) 18 MONTHS old:
This is because 90% of all network marketing businesses fail
in the first 18 months. They fail because this is the period where they are
still trying to establish the business, put out the awareness and put
structures in place. So it usually fails largely because of
under capitalization. The only exception is if the company is highly funded and
with a lot of equity.
2. The Product must be UNIQUE and HIGHLY CONSUMABLE.
*UNIQUE: This means the product must be exclusive. It means
the product CANNOT be purchased anywhere else - not even a generic version of the
product can be purchased somewhere else - except from the company’s DISTRIBUTORS.
*HIGHLY CONSUMABLE: This means there are repeated sales,
thereby guaranteeing customers’ loyalty instead of a one-time sale and having
to locate new customers. And it is able to serve a lot of different groups of
people.
3. Check the Timing and POSITIONING of the company:
» If ½ of 1% of the country’s population is involved, (For
Nigeria with population of 150 million, ½ of 1% of our population is 750,000),
the company would be considered a GROUND FLOOR opportunity.
» If less than 500,000 distributors are involved, it will be
considered a CUTTING EDGE opportunity.
» If less than 100,000 distributors are involved, it will be
considered a ONCE IN A LIFETIME opportunity.
There are four stages of growth in a network marketing
company (Harvard):
» Foundation: This usually lasts 6 months. This is the
period when a company develops its product, the marketing plan, the reward
plan, etc.
» Concentration: This period lasts from 2 to 4 years when
distributor network is started.
» Momentum: This period lasts 2 to 4 years also. This is
when the company experiences phenomenal growth. Both retail and distributorship
explode in terms of expanding growth. This is when the company virtually sweeps
across the nation…This is the reason for getting involved on the “ground floor”
so you will experience the benefits of the explosion growth.
» Stability: This period lasts for the life of the company.
A network marketing company that is dedicated to the success of its
distributors will experience longevity, thereby ensuring that an active
distributor will realize continued earning and growth.
