Unknown gunmen have shot to death an Assistant Inspector General of Police, Mr Baba Ibrahim and injured others severely in Katsina-Ala LGA of Benue State on Wednesday evening.The state Police PRO, Austine Ezeani who confirmed the death yesterday, said the deceased ASP and the injured policemen were deployed from Abuja to Benue State on special assignment to investigate the prevalence of cattle rustling in the state.
Ezeani explained that “the assassinated police officer was in a patrol vehicle at Katsina-Ala town, alongside three policemen, where they went to carry out the assignment when some gunmen who came in a Toyota corolla vehicle opened fire on them.”The PPRO, said the patrol vehicle lost control and that the ASP died on the spot.The other injured officers were rushed to an undisclosed hospital for treatment.Ezeani added that an investigation has been launched into the matter.
